Does your salon offer the products that stylists are using on clients’ hair? If the answer is yes, then you know the importance of using different product lines to increase sales and boost profits. If the answer is no, you’re missing out on a key component of running a good salon.
The saying is that when you leave the salon your hair will never look that good again unless you take your stylist home with you. Since that’s impossible, it’s important that clients leave with the necessary beauty supplies that will help them replicate the look at home. If a woman gets a beautiful cut and colour but has trouble replicating the look at home, she may just give up on fancy haircuts and expensive colour treatments and you’ll lost out on business. But if you send her home with the right shampoo, conditioner, and styling products, she’s more likely to achieve the look she wants.
Choose Two to Three Product Lines
There are a number of great hair product lines available only to salons. This is frustrating for clients who want to use the same products on their hair at home but can’t find the products at the store. Some salons compromise by using a combination of salon only professional products and products available through general retailers. To help your clients achieve their desired looks, purchase wholesale beauty products directly from the manufacturer.
Choose two to three product brands that you believe to offer the best results for different hair types. Have your stylists use these products on clients, and then set up a display case near the front to sell all of the products. If your stylists want to use products in addition to those sold in the salon, make sure they use something clients can find at a general retailer.
Create a Custom Product
Many salons are dabbling in the world of custom hairdressing supplies. You work with a manufacturer and supplier to create your own styling products. You can start out small with shampoo and conditioner, and work your way up to a line of hairspray, mousse, straightening serums, and more.
If you choose to use custom products, than your stylists should only use products designed for and by the salon. Market your new line with gift baskets and giveaways to really showcase how your product line differs from those currently on the market. You may find that clients are stopping in just to grab a bottle of shampoo or hairspray, and your business brand will explode.
