One way to boost business and draw attention to your salon is to host a charity event. A charitable event allows you to market your salon services while raising money for a worthy cause. There are a number of different ways to choose the best charity and market the event so that you not only attract new clients but raise money for your charity.
Choose the Right Charity
Before signing up with a charity you want to make sure that you choose a reputable organisation that details how charitable donations are spent. You may get asked questions by clients regarding the charity and how the money is spent, so you want to know all of the details before agreeing to work with an organisation.
Some questions you can ask the fundraising coordinator are:
- How much of the money raised will go directly to the charity and how much is used for administration expenses?
- What are the current financial needs of the charity and in what areas will the money you raise be spent?
- How long has the organisation been working to finance that particular charity?
- How can clients find out more about the charity?
Coordinating the Event
Once you feel confident that you’re working with a reputable charitable organisation, it’s time to plan the event. How much of your profit for the day will go towards the charity is up to you. In many cases, at least 50% of the money earned for the day is given to the charity, and some places will give 100% of the money raised.
Like any good event, you want to entice clients with package deals, reduced rates, entertainment, and refreshments. Theme parties are always fun, so you can coordinate the salon packages, food, and entertainment around the charity’s central idea.
Gaining Business from a Charity Event
When you throw an event for charity you not only get to contribute to a worthwhile cause, but you can also gain new clients. One of the easiest ways to do that is to have every attendee sign up for a free drawing for products. Once you have a list of names and numbers, you can begin marketing services directly to the clients.
Another way to gain clients is to book follow-up appointments during the event. If a client came in for colour, schedule a touch up in four weeks. If they enjoyed a spa service, ask them to schedule an appointment for a repeat visit. You may be surprised at the number of new clients you gain simply by being charitable.
