Anti-aging is big business, and numerous men and women love to try new anti-aging therapies. If you’ve been looking to expand your salon but weren’t sure which direction to take, consider adding a medi-spa. A medi-spa allows a licensed cosmetic physician to perform simple procedures that help clients look and feel younger. Some of the services of a medi-spa are simple medical type procedures and clients may leave looking a bit puffy or out of it, but the results are usually great and clients pop in on their lunch breaks to have a wrinkle reduced or a lip plumped up.
Salon Equipment Needed for a Medi-Spa
If you’ll only be hiring one cosmetic physician, you can start by investing in just a few new pieces of equipment. You will definitely need a beauty bed that reclines. Many medi-spa services involve laser or injection treatment, so the table or bed you purchase should be comfortable and relaxing. You will also need at least one portable lamp, appropriate trash bins for injections, and any laser equipment the physician will need for services.
Depending on the type of cosmetic physician you hire, they may or may not bring some of the supplies with them for services. If you’re offering services part-time and using a physician who contracts out with different spas, they may bring their own injections and other supplies. If you hire a full-time cosmetic physician, you may need to invest in all of the needed supplies.
Floor Plan for a New Medi-Spa
It may be wise to have a separate entrance for medi-spa clients, if possible. Since many treatments such as fillers and sweat reduction services involve injections, some clients may be leaving with their face slightly swollen or even with some small bandages. This can be unsettling to clients who are trying to relax and get a nice cut and style.
You can always get creative with partitions or creative placement of workstations if a separate entrance isn’t possible. Two salon reception desks are also an option, one for salon clients and one for medi-spa clients. It’s unlikely that you would lose business because of the addition of a medi-spa, but there are a number of ways to handle clients who aren’t comfortable with a salon medi-spa. You can have separate appointment times just for the medi-spa, offer extended hours on certain days, or even have the cosmetic physician visit hair clients and quickly explain about the medi-spa to help ease any discomfort.
Any new venture brings about new challenges, but with the field of anti-aging and beauty exploding like never before, a salon medi-spa is a great way to integrate hair, beauty, and anti-aging.
