Mobile hair and beauty services are becoming all the rage as more clients need services that come to them at their location. Busy professionals and brides are just two types of clients that benefit from mobile services, but the opportunities for growth and expansion are endless when it comes to mobile beauty services.
While adding yet another service to your already busy salon may seem overwhelming, creating a mobile division really isn’t that hard. You won’t need to invest in salon furniture since you’ll be using barber chairs and tables provided at the location. You may need some extra supplies, but buying wholesale beauty supplies can save you money on the initial investment.
Staffing the Mobile Division
There are two ways to staff the mobile division. You can use hairdressers you already employ, or hire a couple of new hairdressers who work on-call as needed. There are disadvantages and benefits to both options. If you use current hairdressers, you already know their skill level and can feel confident sending them out on jobs. However, you may lose some clients at the salon if the hairdressers you choose become too busy with the mobile division.
Hiring new employees does give you a chance to assess their skill levels, but it also won’t take away from business at the salon. When you’re first starting out you may not be able to employ them full-time, which means you may have to work around their work schedule if they need to get a second job. Once the mobile division takes off, you would be able to send them to jobs full-time.
Pick the Mobile Services
A mobile division may or may not be able to offer everything available at the salon. You may want to start out offering hair and makeup services. If those services seem to go well, or you get lots of requests for a particular service such as brow waxing, you can start adding on other services. You may also want to specialise in particular types of clients, such as weddings, birthday parties, or special events. It’s up to you how narrow or broad your clientele becomes with this service.
Market the Services
The last step is to market the services. Advertise locally and within the salon. Make sure your employees get the word out and that your current clients know about the new division. With some careful planning and the right marketing strategies, you can create a whole new avenue of income.
